Interesting geometric structures, both as two-dimensional drawings and three-dimensional constructions, they are true conceptual demonstrations of the expressive possibilities achievable by the reworking of elemental geometric shapes: in the end they are obtained by projecting a star-shaped drawing onto a curved surface. Developed for both aesthetic purposes and to ensure rapid construction, these structures possess all the spatial values of a dome even if they cannot be defined as such (Galdieri 1997: 56, 58). Footnote 1 These techniques soon spread outside Iran, initially and simultaneously to Armenia and Spain, and later to a much vaster area spanning from Central Asia to North Africa. From the end of the tenth century in Iran there developed a great skill in drawing and building domed crossed rib structures.
